A Casual List of Home Improvements

When I moved in to the “fixer upper” 1980’s condo three years ago, I knew there were some improvements that needed to be made.  But I was barely 21 when I made a lot of my key design decisions.  All of them well meant but now that I am 24, I am starting to think my younger self had a very “eclectic” taste.  Okay, it’s girly.  And we have a lot of work to do before we have the house in Ryan’s mom’s words “just the way we like it so we can sell it.”

THE LIST

Anything that looks like this has been completed

  • Paint the living room a different, more neutral color.
  • Get a new couch, new coffee table, and a lovely side table that is NOT made out of books…
  • A small chair for extra seating for company…
  • Paint the trim in the living room…yes, Mom, I am getting it done! 🙂
  • Paint the bar in the living room…
  • Clear out under the bar and the shelves…we have too many wine glasses…
  • Built-in bookcases and media center in living room…
  • Two sinks instead of the one along with new cabinets in the bathroom.
  • Linen shelves in the bathroom.
  • Shower door removed in all its scuzziness.
  • New shower curtain up so I can actually take bubble baths. Ahhhh…
  • Make the tub look more finished…
  • New kitchen counter tops
  • Sand and repaint the cabinets in the kitchen
  • Hardware on the cabinets to modernize and unify the room…
  • In place of the kitchen island and pot rack which is pushed against the wall, a pantry will be put in to maximize storage space…
  • New sink in the kitchen and more than likely a fancy faucet if Ryan has anything to say about it…and he will 🙂
  • Extend the counterspace out, create a wine nook and have a space that we can store our recycling and trash discreetly…

No one likes looking a a nasty trashcan…

  • Create a lazy susan under the corner counter, which I have dubbed the black hole, mainly because stuff goes in there and we never see it again!
  • New floor in the living room and hallway.  Since the house is so small, we could do this on the cheap and hopefully ourselves.
  • Paint the subfloors to create a hypo-allergenic space until we can afford the laminate…(UPDATED APRIL 20)
  • Repair the little passover piece in between the living room and kitchen.  My advice?  Don’t use Sears flooring.
  • Create an actual dining area in the living room…
  • Screen in the balcony.
  • Create a little nook for Mads on the balcony…
  • Wardrobes in the master bedroom to replace the knockoff bedside tables that are actually falling apart!
  • Create a reading space for me in the bedroom…
  • Get rid of all my “baby furniture” and purchase more modern, sleek, sexy, and adult bedroom furniture.
  • Set up office nook in the kitchen…
  • On top of that (UPDATED APRIL 20) paint desk, chair!
  • And furthermore (UPDATED APRIL 20) reupholster chair…
  • Hem the curtains in the kitchen so they don’t look like haunted house decorations…
