Pinterest This: Dumpster Door

It all started with an oil change. Today was used as my “day off”/errand running day, which is really what it turned out to be, hence this late post. Over the weekend, I was up in Manson, NC for the annual Buchanan Clan Family Reunion.  We are the descendents of 10 brothers and sisters; my grandmother was the baby of the lot.  There was a lot of eating, a lot of laughing, and a whole lot of lovin’.  Check us out!

In the words of the Bible, our ancestors begotten a lot of children…

This morning, I went out to get my oil changed in my car, something I am really terrible at remembering, but today, the clouds parted, and by God, I was going to get my oil changed.  Nothing was going to stop me…especially not the 2 hour wait at the lube center.  I actually shrugged it off, went to Plato’s Closet after dropping off my car and handed them a full bag of clothes.  Afterwards, I did my grocery shopping at a leisurely pace (’cause, I mean, come on, you guys, I had like 2 HOURS!), and finished up early.  I actually had to request my key back from the mechanic so I could put my groceries in the trunk.  After giving him the key back, I ventured back to Plato’s Closet, where I was not able to make bank for my clothes…most of them had to be returned.  That’s cool.  What wasn’t cool is that I realized that I needed to put this heaping bag of clothes back in my car…and I really did not want to ask the lube guy (snicker) for the key again.

Light bulb moment!  I knew there was a donation center somewhere in the Galleria Mall parking lot. Nothing like a little bit of exercise, I cradled my bag of rejects (affectionately named) and journeyed forth to find this sought after donation bin.  Needless to say, it had since “picked up legs and moved.”  Around this time, I was getting a little chilly, so instead of going into Wal-Mart and getting a sticker for my bag, I went to the Galleria Mall.  Once there, I found a cozy couch in the mall center and parked, YES, parked with my bag.  I sat there for about 5 minutes, playing around on my phone, when I began to feel the pity stares.  Poor thing, the passersby seemed to whisper, the poor girl is homeless. Not going to lie, I don’t really blame them.  I had a “just rolled out of bed” look about me.  I am pretty sure I smelled funny, and I was wearing the clothes I had worn the night before because it was laundry day and I really didn’t feel like dirtying anything else up.  I was worried some people were going to offer me, the Droid user, several bucks to help out with my sad plight.  Luckily, this never happened, and I was able to get back to my car with my bag of clothes in peace.

On the way home, I spotted this beauty hanging out by the community dumpster; and I felt a kinship with it, being a little dumpy and scrubby feeling myself.  I picked it up, brought it in, and cleaned it up nicely.

Now, readers, here is where I need your help.  This is going to be the art piece in the newly-developing guest room. I would really love to have it done by the holidays for company and parties.  I am looking for some great Pinterest ideas you may have stumbled upon in the past.  I have already dug up a few Pin-sperations for you to peruse.

This is a little intense, but I still like the originality of using a door as a display shelf…or even putting a few candles on top for a glowing light fixture.

This rustic feel is gorgeous, and that is my favorite part of this pin.  I am not looking to be married anytime soon, but I am seriously considering keeping the door in its “organic” state and using it later on for a place card holder.

These doors are, in a word, awesome!  The slats on the door that I found would be perfect for hanging photographs.

You know I am BIG on frames, too.  Having a frame door instead of putting more holes in the wall may just be the ticket!

I am really looking forward to seeing what you would suggest.  Your input MATTERS!  I write this blog to get more ideas from more original people than I will ever be.  Send me your pins in the comments section or on Facebook!

Happy Monday everyone!

  1. I once topped a shutter with a piece of glass and it became a desktop. Coffee table? I really like your idea of hanging it on the wall and becoming a frame displayer. Since it is slatted, I am also wondering if you could use small hooks in it to hold long necklaces or scarves. Great find! Can’t wait to see how you use it!

    • Oh my goodness, these are awesome ideas, Lauren! Thank you so much for commenting, but first for reading! Have a great night.

  2. In the same vein of using the slats, if you are using it solely for the holidays, you could hang ornaments from the slats. I also thought about making a coffee table out of it, but there again, the slats may hinder that idea. I really like the idea of hanging stuff from the slats, like picture frames. Like you said, it’d be nice to not have anymore holes in the wall!

    • True that! lol. I will have to see what I scrounge up. Might do it over the weekend…I do need a little entertainment center for all my DVD’s.
