Fridays are usually my gear up day on my blog. With two full days off, I am looking into making significant changes to The Treehouse. Friday is also a big day for potential house hunters and open houses are abundant on the weekends. To kick off the weekend, I am going to begin featuring a listing of Amy’s and mine on the blog.
Realtors are inclined to gush about their listings but I am compelled to do so. The picture above was taken from a camera phone during one of my many trips out to this gorgeous Colonial-style home a few weeks ago. The yard is filled with iris, roses, fig trees, and even a Japanese maple. The actual exterior of the home was painted only a few weeks ago and it is gleaming! While I was sitting in my car, just taking in the front of the house, a small group of kids came riding by on their bikes, laughing and talking about their summer plans. Not to long after, a jogger strode past me. Rawlinson Acres II is just that kind of peaceful: active but also laid back. And this home is situated perfectly in the middle of it all!
The beauty of this style of home is that there is so much architectural interest. The shutters offset the neutral paint of the house but I am a big fan of the side entry into the kitchen. I love the design of the railing, an interesting modern juxtaposition against the traditional colonial style.
The main entry is through the foyer which features hardwood floors that have not only been refinished but also cleaned to shine. The powder room is tucked away in the entry hall, away from the kitchen but close enough to the front door to wash up after spending time tending the garden.
The open concept of the house is wonderful. The wide doorway offers a glimpse of the formal dining room with plenty of space for a large table as well as a dining hutch or china cabinet. The hardwood floors are also a great touch.
On the other side of the foyer is the huge family room with gas log fireplace. There is more than enough space to have a sitting area as well as an entertainment space.
The room is outfitted with crown molding as well as doors out to the screened porch. The windows bring in so much natural light, you hardly have to turn a light on during the day. This saves a lot on energy bills.
This is literally my favorite spot “in” the entire house. I am humongous screened porch fan and this porch is not only spacious but it overlooks the fenced back yard and patio. The screening is brand new and I must admit that I day dream of having a screened porch like this one day. It’s just so beautiful.
The kitchen is my second favorite feature in the home. It has so much cabinet and counter space and also has a nice coffee hutch for your coffee pot and mugs. This kitchen has tons of potential. Because there are no barriers between the kitchen and the breakfast area, the kitchen can be kept as is for an open concept or it can be remodeled for very little cost.
Just another view from the side entry. The entire kitchen has been painted and the wall of windows is phenomenal. A lovely feature in this home is the abundance of natural light. The breakfast area is large enough for a sweet round table, and I really like the light fixture hanging above.
The master suite is HUGE and features double sinks with vanity area, a spacious walk-in closet, and has cathedral ceilings, offering a wonderful open, airy feel. I am also so very in love with the tranquil blue.
The stand up shower as well as jetted tub give you the best of both worlds: slip in a quick shower during the work week in the large shower and then kick back and relax in the tub on the weekends.
On the back of the home, in addition to the screened porch is the large patio. This space is begging to have a gorgeous outdoor dining table and maybe a firepit. There is plenty of outdoor dining and entertaining space in this home.
This house is just a gem. I like to think of it as the house where memories are made. This is a home where you can enjoy quiet, intimate evenings in with your loved ones but also throw big gatherings with your friends. The neighborhood is perfect for strapping on your running shoes and going for a morning jog. The house itself is so close to the grocery store that you can pick up a gallon of milk in between commercial breaks for your favorite show. The back yard can be a child’s retreat, a humongous play area for your pets, a proper English garden for the green thumb in the family, and even a grilling mecca for the avid cook!
