So I find myself at Thursday exhausted and so in need of a break from the Treehouse. What is wrong with me? This week seems to be the week from Hades, I can assure you. It started a few days ago when I figured out my HVAC system was no longer cooling efficiently. This resulted in me calling over the quickest HVAC contractor I could find. What I wanted was for him to pretty much give me the death certificate for the HVAC system and give me a quote for replacement. He took it upon himself to change out the freon without asking me and then informed me that it was going to more than likely leak out in the next few days anyway…oh, and that’ll be $500. After I swallowed my tears from being stuck with a $500 bill and a quote for $4000 to replace the system, I must admit I enjoyed the cool air.
For the past day, I have been calling HVAC specialists to give me quotes to replace the system. I know it’s not cheap but there has to be at least some kind of savings from $4000. That’s me taking out a home equity loan. I want to be able to pay it off as quickly as possible.
This morning I woke up to a dripping noise. I prayed it was just from the bathroom sink but no, it was the same dripping that occurred in my inside system last summer. So I was up at 6:30 this morning, sopping up dirty vent water with beach towels. And there goes that $500 fee down the drain. $500 for one day of AC? I should have stayed at a Motel 6.
So this weekend, I am more than happy to be heading to Charleston to be with my mom and sister. It’s going to be a cool vacation, get it? Cool?
Regardless, it looks like it’s going to be a while before I can work on my other home updates, including the kitchen and the floors in the living room. I have to keep reminding myself that it’s really no big deal, that the new HVAC system will at least make the house sell faster, and I will have heating and cooling in a matter of a few days.
