Falling Slowly: Things I Am Looking Forward to this Fall

It still feels like Summer, but I am already seeing the leaves changing a bit and every now and then, I can smell Autumn on the breeze.  Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. It’s sweater weather, it’s my favorite flavors and scents, it invites me to get cozy and watch movies with my love.  And the beauty of it is, I live in place that is teaming with things to do when the weather gets chilly.

Pick Your Own Apples at Windy Hill Orchard and Cider Mill

There’s not a lot I remember from my childhood, but I remember taking a field trip to this orchard when I was in elementary school.  We got to ride on hay bails, fed apple peels to pigs, and learned about Johnny Appleseed.  Since then, I have passed this orchard several times while traveling and I have only stopped once.  I “liked” them on Facebook and every other day, I am drooling over their apple donuts and cider pictures that they post.  I have never been apple picking before but it sounds like a lot of fun.  Check them out here.

Take in Ye Olden Days at The Carolina Renaissance Festival

The Ren Faire has become a tradition for me over the past 13 years.  I used to go with my Girl Scout troop when I was younger but now I love going with my friends, having a pumpkin beer, maybe even a bread bowl chili, and watching the Tortuga Twins show and the jousting.  Nothing beats it when it comes to fall traditions in the South.  Check it out here.

Scream Your Head Off at Scarowinds

I am not much for being frightened.  But since I began dating Tim, going to Scarowinds has become something I really look forward to.  Went we a few times last year and I actually had a great time.  Some of the ghouls even knew who I was, and they growled my name in the dark.  Adds for an extra creepy factor.  This year also, I have promised to ride the Sky Coaster with Tim and our Lucky Lou’s friends.  Even while I type this, my heart rate is through the roof.  The Sky Coaster, in case you don’t know, has to be at least 20 stories high and drops you in a free fall from the very top.  I wouldn’t say that I am deathly afraid of heights but I would take 10 haunted houses over riding that thing any day.  Here goes nothing.  Check out Scarowinds here.

Watch the Leaves Change in Asheville

Every year I promise myself that I will take a day trip to Asheville and check out the fall foliage.  I haven’t been since my sophomore year of college.  Fail.  But this year, I am marking a date on my calendar and by golly-gosh, I am going.  Tim wants to check out Harrah’s Cherokee, the casino close by, as well.  And there’s always something to do in Asheville.

Then there are the little things that I just happen to appreciate that come around every year.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks

If you guys know me, you know I am freakishly excited about pumpkin spice lattes like the rest of the world.  From September to November, you will find me at the drive thru at least once a week for those sweet drinks.

Fall Television Kicks Up

Oh me, all the feels: How I Met Your Mother is wrapping up it’s final season.  New Girl, The Mindy Project, and American Horror Story.  Oh, and Walking Dead, and even Glee. Then there’s Once Upon a Time, Family Guy…I could really go on all day. I am going to be so busy parked in front of the television, it’s insane.  The thing I am looking most forward to, though?  The fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who in November.  It’s like a nerd’s Christmas.
